Scottsdale (O'odham Va?ai S-va?on?; Yaqui Eskatel) is a city in the eastern part of Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, adjacent to Phoenix. As of 2007 the population of the city was 240,410. Scottsdale is regarded as an upscale tourist and shopping destination and as a representation of western American style. The New York Times described downtown Scottsdale as "a desert version of Miami's South Beach" and as having "plenty of late night partying and a buzzing hotel scene."
Scottsdale is bordered to the west by Phoenix and Paradise Valley, to the north by Carefree, to the south by Tempe, and to the east by Fountain Hills and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
Scottsdale was originally inhabited by Hohokam. From circa 300 BC to 1400 AD, this ancient civilization farmed the area and built some of the most ingenious irrigation canals the world has ever known. The name Hohokam translates as "vanished," as the civilization mysteriously disappeared without a trace.[
Before European settlement, Scottsdale was a Pima village known as Va?ai Sva?on?, meaning "rotting hay." Some Pima remained in their original homes well into the 20th century. For example, until the late 1960s, there was a still-occupied traditional dwelling on the southeast corner of Indian Bend Road and Hayden Road.[original research?] By now, however, all Pima have either been priced out of town or moved into newer homes within Scottsdale; primarily South Scottsdale, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, or elsewhere.
The Hohokam's legacy is their creation of more than 125 miles (200 km) of canals to provide water for their agricultural needs. The remnants of this ancient irrigation system were adapted and improved upon in 1868 by the first Anglo company to stake a claim in the Valley of the Sun, when Jack Swilling set up the Swilling Irrigation Canal Company. Twenty years later, Scottsdale's future would turn sharply upwards, when a U.S. Army Chaplain, Winfield Scott, paid the paltry sum of $2.50 an acre for a 640-acre (2.6 km2) stretch of land where the city is now located. Winfield's brother, George Washington Scott, was the first resident of the town that was then known as Orangedale and later changed to Scottsdale in 1894.
I am involved in holistic health care and alternative medicine, art, writing, and playing and watching basketball (my new roommate will be moving in just before the NBA playoffs, and I would be willing to split the remaining NBA League Pass two ways). I enjoy having intellectual, philosophical, and political discussion (mature discussion between two adults can be interesting and stimulating and is good for the mind and soul). Business is a particular area of interest I have as well, and I love thinking about marketing, creative media, socioeconomic factors in our society, history, and human nature in general. I am looking to rediscover my independence and autonomy after a three year relationship and would like to relax and spend time doing as many things that I love as possible. I will be turning 26 in April, and would prefer to go hiking, play basketball, shoot pool, play video games, read, draw, or just kick back than spend every other night drinking and going to bars and happy hour. I am a full time student at SWIHA (Southwest Institute of Healing Arts) and work full time in property management. I am searching for a roommate who is in a similar place in his/her life, who is honest, responsible, reliable, reasonable, respectful, and like minded. These are all qualities I gravitate towards and I try to possess as often as possible.
What I am Looking For...
I am looking for a new roommate to live with me in my Old Town Scottsdale, 3 Bedroom, 2 Full Bath, 1,800 square foot remodeled home. My girlfriend and I are taking a break and she is getting her own place by the end of the month. My goal is to have any one of the two large rooms for a new roommate to move into by April 1st. The house offers many amenities, including an 8 ft Olhausen pool table in the living area, along with a 55” Sony Bravia TV and a home theater system, including Blu Ray player, XBOX360, Wii, DirecTV HD Premier Package (265 channels, 65 music channels, HD DVR). If you like watching movies and/or playing video games, you will like this set up. Each of the two available bedrooms are large and have ample closet space. We will use the second bedroom as an office, workout room, or guest room; whichever is most easily agreed upon. The bathroom is completely remodeled with marble and travertine tile, amongst other upgrades and improvements aesthetically. I like to cook, and there is a large kitchen with a gas range, as well as my own five burner gas grill in the side yard.
*One bedroom per roommate + extra room can be used as a guest bedroom/office/den/hobby room; whatever we agree on.
*You only need bedroom furniture. Everything else is provided and is high quality.
*No shared bathrooms. Whoever moves in will get their own very nice remodeld bathroom.
*8' Pool Table
*Housewares, decorations, etc. are all included.
*Sweet entertainment/home theatre setup
*Backyard w/nice patio set and fire pit.
*Ideally Located – less than one mile to 101 Loop
*Less than one mile from Scottsdale Community College
*One mile or less from top rated Restaurants and Bars/Nightlife
*15 minutes in each direction to Tempe and/or North Scottsdale.
*20 minutes to the airport
** I prefer sharing the house with a straight male, but am not opposed to all who are interested (male/female, gay/straight) so long as the dynamics are good.
